2025 yearly reading wrap up & 2026 reading goals

2025 yearly reading wrap up & 2026 reading goals

It's time to recap my reading stats from last year! I don't know about you, but I love statistics. They even make the worst reads enjoyable to finish, since they'll be included in the list.

My year 2025 in stats

Statistics

  • 100 books read
  • 48 354 pages
  • Average rating of 3.1

Now for the formats:

  • 38 audiobooks
  • 17 physical books
  • 45 ebooks

Genres

This year, like last year, I mainly read what my clients requested for my annotated books, which you can find here. Therefore, I mainly read fantasy (62.5%), romance (25%), and thriller/horror (12.5%).

Best and worst book of the year

My favorite book of the year is definitely The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. It's been a long time since I've read something so well written. (I'm definitely going to buy a physical copy of this one!)

On the other hand, I would say that the book I liked the least is The Lies We Steal by Monty Jay. I don't think dark romance is for me. I always have a hard time getting attached to the couple and tend to pray that they won't end up together throughout the book. What's more, I find it hard to take everything surrounding them seriously.

Conclusion

Throughout the year, I realized that I was growing less and less fond of my bookshelf. I find it impersonal because it's mostly made up of books I haven't read. The books I read are annotated and sent to you, so I don't really see the point of having them all at home anymore! I'll come back to this point later. Also, I am still in love with my Kobo, and reading on it is such a joy that I find it harder and harder to live without!

2026 reading goals

  • Read 85 books
  • Read more horror/thriller books
  • Read 6-9 books/month
  • Unhaul all my books

This year, I would like to read fewer books but ones that are of higher quality. I'm not sure I can achieve this, as it's very subjective and difficult to predict, especially when you don't choose all the books you read. In any case, I don't want to feel stressed at the end of the year because I've been slacking off and have to read three books in one day (aka December 31, 2025).

Also, I would like to read more of my favorite genre after fantasy, horror/thriller. I can't wait to discover all the brilliant plot twists I'm going to come across.

I'd also like to read more of my favorite genre after fantasy, which is horror/thriller. I can't wait to discover all the brilliant plot twists I'm going to come across.

My last goal is probably the most surprising. As I explained earlier, my library is mainly made up of books I haven't read yet, and I don't have physical copies of the books I've enjoyed recently. So my plan would be to get rid of everything that doesn't mean anything to me and build a library consisting solely of books I've read, want to reread, and love.
